Abstract

The purpose of this research has been surveyed for improving job satisfaction of nurses through from the stress and coping methods. It was chosen one of University hospital in downtown of seoul and 166 nurses have participated to answer for the data.
It was to collect research data from Oct. 22nd 1998 to Oct. 27th. Each floor staff nurses has explained the purpose of survey paper which was prepared well and gotten the data. After collecting data has encoded the coding card, it has been computerized by SAS.
The summary of research result is below.
1) The stress of nurses.
The nurses feel the most their stress a lot from the relation of working with doctors. It is written by the highest primary stress. For example "doctors are not recognized murses' ability and roles", "criticized the job infront of other people by boss", "The doctor imputed his job and responsibility", The manpower of nurses in the hospital would be inappropriate treatment" and "Overnight job". the lowest of stress is "Not good relation with nursing supervisors and nurse assitant".
2) The coping methods of nurses' stress.
The coping methods which has used by nurses showed to use the cope focused on problems. There are many nurses have used stress coping methods each contents as belows. "To pledge by herself next job could be different", "Trying to do not disturbing any other job because of my emotion", "Trying to see other person's side", "Rediscovering what is most important thing in life', "To decide what to do next", "To prepare for the next step", The less coping methods showed as below;
"Do not believe such things happen", "Hoping to get the miracles", "To retaliate the others", "Not to beaware of person's intention how the work is wrong".
3) Stress, Coping methods & job satisfaction of nurse.
It realized that there was not any relationship between the stress and job satisfaction. Coping methods and job satisfaction do not have any relationship each others. However emotional focused cope showed the positive way.
Also between focused problems and emotional focused cope was positive. The higher cope focused on problems is more cope of focused in emotion.
The coping methods which was affected job satisfaction has been "risk implement" "Refreshment", "Thinking of desire".
However three coping methods are lower explanation that job satisfaction has affected lower also. The result of this research as below;
(1) "The higher stress will be more cope focused on problems" is agreed.
(2) "The higher stress will be less job satisfaction" is rejected.
(3) "The more cope focused on problems will be higher job satisfaction" is rejected. .
